ASOS - Automated Surface Observing System - (link)
"The Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) is an automated weather observing
system designed for aviation purposes. It is sponsored by the Federal Aviation
Administration, National Weather Service (NWS), and the Department of Defense (DOD)."
MARITIME - (link)
The maritime group consists of observations on the ocean. This group consists of
platforms maintained by several groups, the NOAA Coastal Marine Automated Network
(C-MAN), fixed and drifting buoys, and ship reports, and buoys maintained by the
NOAA National Data Buoy Center (NDBC), Scripps Coastal Data Information Program
(CDIP), and the Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System."
SCCOOS - (link)
SCCOOS stations are those whose data pass through the SCCOOS storage and retrieval
system. These stations report their data directly and exclusively to this database.
MesoWest - (link)
MesoWest is a cooperative project between researchers at the University of Utah,
forecasters at the Salt Lake City National Weather Service Office, the NWS
Western Region Headquarters, and personnel of participating agencies,
universities, and commercial firms.
RAWS - Remote Automated Weather Stations - (link)
The RAWS stations are an inter-agency network whose data is to assist land
management agencies with a variety of projects monitoring air quality, rating
fire danger, and providing information for research applications.
APRSWXNET - Automatic Position Reporting System as a WX NETwork -
(link)
The APRSWXNET/Citizen Weather Observer Program is a group of ham radio operators
and other private citizens around the country that have volunteered the use of
their weather data for education, research and use by interested parties.
OTHER-MTR - non-ASOS METARs - (link)
These stations are used for reporting, recording and transmitting weather
observations and do not belong to the ASOS class of METAR (METeorological
Aerodrome Report).
WXforYou - (link)
Weather for You is a network of publicly owned, personal weather stations
that is networked by the NOAA Forecast Systems Laboratory Mesonet data system.
NOS-PORTS - National Ocean Service - Physical Oceanographic Real-Time System -
(link)
These systems are sponsored by NOAA NOS-COOPs and are in place to support safe
and cost-efficient navigation by providing ship masters and pilots with accurate
real-time information required to avoid groundings and collisions.
